Transport compliance audit for HGV and PSV operators

A transport compliance audit gives you an independent view of how well your operation matches the promises made on your Operator Licence. Good consultants do not arrive with a generic checklist. They look at how the business actually runs, compare that against the O-licence undertakings, and identify where risk is building. A proper transport compliance audit often highlights issues that have been accepted as normal practice for months, sometimes years.

What an experienced consultant reviews

Most audits start with maintenance systems, driver defect reporting, inspection records, MOT performance, drivers' hours management and Working Time compliance. The consultant will also review licence administration, operating centre arrangements, transport manager oversight, record keeping and the effectiveness of internal controls. The aim is to test whether the systems on paper are the same systems being followed day to day.

Choosing a transport compliance audit consultant

The best consultants provide an honest gap report, not a sales pitch. Findings should be prioritised by risk, with practical actions that can be implemented by the operator. Many operators commission a transport compliance audit before a DVSA visit, following a Traffic Commissioner concern, after rapid business growth, or as part of regular assurance. Experience in audits, investigations and transport management matters because the consultant should be able to spot trends, challenge assumptions and explain the likely regulatory consequences of non-compliance.

Use ETM to compare consultants with transport compliance audit experience, shortlist specialists by region, and send one enquiry to selected consultants through ETM.
